Indian Sericulture today presents a picture of an established, flourishing and well organized industry spread all over country. India, the second largest producer of silk in the world, cultures all the five kinds of silks, namely; mulberry, tasar, oak tasar, eri and muga. The present book contains valuable information on “Fundamentals of Sericulture” and would be highly useful to not only the practicing sericulturists but also to the students of sericulture. I am of the opinion that it would also find wide acceptance among the trainers, trainees and other stakeholders of the Silk Industry.

This book has been divided into five chapters; each chapter dealing with specific topics on different subtopics of sericulture. The fundamentals and applied aspects of sericulture are presented within the framework of scientific observations. Photographs and diagrams illustrate all the important aspects of sericulture and their management strategies. The various aspects concentrate as putting across the basic principles of the subject as briefly and lucidly as possible to increase the knowledge of readers, especially students, trainees and researchers. To make this book comprehensive and up-to-date, the authors have freely consulted various articles, reviews discussion notes and extracts from the various scientific journals, besides their own publications. In compiling this book we have tried our level best to reflect the contemporary outlook on the subjects limiting ourselves within the framework of the prescribed syllabus.
